most of us understand estate planning and administration
as the planned distribution of our assets at death, "elder
law" is a newer concept that encompasses a number of issues.
Rather than focusing primarily on tax planning and post-mortem
distribution of assets, elder law is largely concerned with
planning for the care needs of seniors and the disabled.
What
is Elder Law?
Elder
law is more than simple estate planning or retirement planning.
Legal issues for the elderly, disabled and their families
are complex. Laws and regulations involving Medicaid, Medicare,
Social Security, nursing homes, assisted living, special needs
trusts and benefits planning can be difficult to understand.

I-40 East, please use Exit 64, turn left at bottom of
the exit ramp. At the third stop light after the exit;

you will be on East State Street: our office is .7 of

Wendy
A. Craig, a member of the North Carolina State Bar since
1990, has an office in Black Mountain, North Carolina. She
received a B.A. from Wake Forest University in 1987 and a
J.D. in 1990 from Vanderbilt University Law School. She served as
Secretary of the Elder Law Section of the North Carolina Bar
Association in 2003-2004 and served as Chair of the Section for the 2006-2007 term. Wendy is a member of the National Academy of the Elder
Law Attorneys, Inc. (NAELA) and co-chairs the North Carolina NAELA Chapter. NAELA is a professional association
of attorneys concerned with improving the availability and
delivery of legal services to the older person.
